Atlético are rebuilding around a departure that once looked permanent. Antoine Griezmann left for Orlando City on a free, closing a spell that defined the club for a decade, and Diego Simeone — in charge since December 2011 — answered with roughly €95m of spending: €40m for Sporting's Morten Hjulmand, €35m to take Kang-in Lee from Paris Saint-Germain and €20m for Álex Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen. Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth lead the line with Álex Baena and Thiago Almada behind them. Eleven La Liga titles and three Europa Leagues sit in the cabinet.
