Elche vs Barcelona: La Liga Match Preview

Barcelona begin their 2026/27 La Liga title defence away against Elche on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Estadio Martínez Valero. Kick-off is scheduled for 9:30 PM CEST (1:00 AM IST on August 24). Although this is officially Matchday 2, it is Barcelona's first league match of the season after their opening fixture was postponed because of the extended recovery period needed by players returning from the World Cup.

Elche, however, will see this as an opportunity to immediately make a statement against the defending champions.

Barcelona should dominate possession and spend long periods in Elche's half, but Flick's biggest challenge may be maintaining control with a weakened midfield. Elche's best chance will be to frustrate Barcelona early and exploit any spaces left behind when the visitors commit numbers forward.
