Ipswich Town vs Liverpool: Premier League

 

Ipswich Town welcome Liverpool to Portman Road on Friday, September 4, 2026, in a Premier League clash. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM BST (12:30 AM IST on September 5). Liverpool will be looking for their first league victory of the season, while Ipswich will hope to use their strong home form to produce another big result.

Liverpool have drawn their opening two Premier League matches 2–2, including the dramatic draw away at Newcastle United and another 2–2 result in their following fixture. Andoni Iraola's side therefore arrive at Portman Road still searching for their first league win of the campaign.

Despite the slow start, Liverpool possess enormous attacking quality. Florian Wirtz has already shown his ability to create chances, while Dominik Szoboszlai could make his 150th appearance for the club. Alexander Isak is another player to watch, having scored four goals in only two previous Premier League appearances against Ipswich.

Liverpool have also strengthened their attack with the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. The French forward has trained with his new teammates and is available to make his Liverpool debut. However, because he has not played a pre-season match since the World Cup, Iraola must decide whether to start him or introduce him from the bench.

Ipswich come into the match with plenty of confidence at home. Gary O'Neil's side began their Premier League campaign with a 2–1 victory over Sunderland at Portman Road and subsequently defeated Leicester City 3–1 in the Carabao Cup. Their only league defeat so far came away to Manchester United, where they lost 5–2.

The Tractor Boys have also been extremely difficult to beat at home. Ipswich are unbeaten in their last 18 home league matches, although Liverpool's visit represents a major step up in opposition.

Historically, however, Liverpool have enjoyed the advantage in this fixture. The Reds have won their last four Premier League meetings with Ipswich, scoring 17 goals and conceding just once. They are also unbeaten in all six of their Premier League visits to Portman Road, with four wins and two draws.

Ipswich's defensive record will be a major concern. They have kept only one clean sheet in their last 36 Premier League matches and none in their last 21 league games. Liverpool, meanwhile, will be determined to tighten up at the other end after conceding twice in each of their opening league games.

Ipswich have enough attacking quality and excellent home momentum to make this a difficult contest. However, Liverpool's squad depth, superior individual quality and outstanding historical record against Ipswich should give them the edge.
